Data Tests

Here are reports of database sharing observations performed by various genealogy software program users. We will Name the Tests Results based on the Test Files that were uses.


Also included are links to some observations by Genea-Blogger, Randy Seaver of Genea-Musings  with his permission.



Test 1 is a working family file that was used for these test. That file will not be made available, as it contains private information. But, wanted to share the results. Follow up test files will be made available for others.


Test 3 is the GEDCOM generated by TMG that was the Test 1 file. It contains private information.

Test 7 is the Test 1 file, opened in Roots Magic 4, then a GEDCOM file was generated from Roots Magic 4 



Understanding that others may wish to share this experience, the following test files will be available to others, but sending an email to:

Requesting the test file by number.


Test 2 is a Simple Project file created in TMG


Test 4 is a Demo file, that can be found on the Family Tree Maker Version 11 installation CD. From that version this GEDCOM file was created.


Test 5 is the Test 4 file, opened in Roots Magic 4, then this file was generated from Roots Magic 4.


Test 6 is the Test 4 file, opened in The Master Genealogist, then it generated a GEDCOM
